A series of innovative breakthrough were achieved as follows: (1) By use of two scandium catalysts, which show different monomer selectivity and stereo-selectivity, with TIBA as a chain shuttling agent, the region-, and steorospecific copolymerization of styrene, isoprene and butadiene has been achieved for the first time to afford a novel family of soft-hard type multiblock copolymer materials composed of highly regulated sPS, PIP and PBD sequences.(2) Cyclic olefin copolymers (COC)containing reactive cyclic double near the backbone were synthesized via copolymerization of ethylene and different cyclic diene by using a living titanium catalyst. Various functional group, such as epoxy and amino group, were introduced effectively via following chemical modifications. (3) To better take advantage of thiol-halogen, thiol-ene click chemistry to develop diverse functional iPP materials, novel poly(propylene-co-halogen-undecene) and poly(propylene-co-3-butenylstyrene) were synthesized with high molecular weight, high comonomer content and high regularity by an effective Hf catalyst system. These iPP containing pendent halogen or styrene served as excellent reactive polymer intermediates in the following click chemistry to give various functional iPP materials. The applicant has published 29 papers, including 9 first-author or corresponding-author papers, in Chem. Rev., Angew. Chem. Int.
